About Us

Boston Microsystems (BMS) is an MIT-spinout located ten miles north of Boston that was founded in 1997 to manufacture and market advanced chemical detection systems. The original research behind BMS was performed in the laboratory of Professor Harry Tuller of the MIT Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The company is privately held.

BMS patent-protected technology uses microscopic sensors to detect and measure chemicals at unprecedented detection levels. Manufactured using techniques and equipment developed in the semiconductor industry, BMS sensors are precise, rugged, reliable, can be produced in high volumes at relatively low cost, and can readily be adapted to detect a wide range of chemicals.

Doing Business With Us

Boston Microsystems business model is to partner with a select number of industrial OEM, reseller, and other partners who would either resell BMS products or purchase and integrate BMS subsystems into their own products. Facilities

Boston MicroSystems is located in a modern 5000 square foot facility in Woburn, Massachusetts. Boston MicroSystems facilities includes a class 1000 cleanroom where its proprietary micromachining and sensor fabrication processes are performed, a class 10,000 laboratory for sensor packaging and characterization, and a laboratory for chemical sensor development and characterization. Packaging and sensor characterization facilities include wire bond and wafer probe stations, digital and thermal imaging microscopes, and electronic test instrumentation. Specialized environmental chambers are available for sensor evaluation, ranging from ambient to elevated temperatures, under controlled pressure and vacuum vessels for pressure sensor characterization, and gas metering and mixing systems for establishing sensor performance and lifetime in a variety of chemical environments.
